Terms

All items are offered subject to prior sale. Always shipped carefully and insured, typically free in the US, $20 to Canada, and $30 to most other destinations.

New customers are asked to provide payment upon ordering. Institutions will receive items on approval with a 30-day invoice unless other arrangements are made.

Items may be returned within 30 days of receipt, in the same condition, for any reason. All books are guaranteed as described. Complete instructions for returns will be found on our Shipping & Returns page.

Accepted payment methods include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Check, preferably drawn on a US bank (we may wait for personal checks to clear before shipping purchases)

  • Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Diner’s Club, JCB, and UnionPay cards

  • PayPal

  • Wire transfer (we maintain EUR and GBP accounts for our overseas customers)

  • Apple Pay

  • Venmo (via PayPal)

Payment methods accepted through our online store are restricted to credit cards (excluding UnionPay), Apple Pay, PayPal, and Venmo. Some additional restrictions based on the customer’s home country may also apply.

Institutions are always welcome to inquire about deferred billing or other special arrangements.

Massachusetts residents should add appropriate sales tax.

Descriptions

All books are complete unless otherwise noted. We collate each item leaf by leaf, ensuring pagination and collation match mathematically. While pagination and collation statements may sometimes reflect Fredson Bowers’s notion of the ideal copy, we will always note defects in our condition statements.

Our statements regarding institutional holdings are pretty accurate. We typically search WorldCat (OCLC), Library Hub (COPAC), Karlsruher Virtueller Katalog (KVK), and the online national union catalogs of those countries most likely to hold copies (Catalogue collectif de France for French imprints, OPAC SBN for Italian imprints, etc.). While we try to account for the vagaries of minimal cataloging, mistaken use of non-print records for print copies, and transcription differences, we will inevitably miss the odd record. We encourage you to use our holding statement as a starting-point for your own investigation.

Letterforms may be converted during transcription. For example, we may transcribe “vj” as “vi,” “Ivlij” as “Julii,” etc.

Authorship statements may be omitted from title transcriptions without indication. For example, we may transcribe Marci Tullii Ciceronis officiorum libri tres simply as Officiorum libri tres.

Imprints are typically Anglicized and shortened for our descriptions.

We may adjust punctuation in title transcriptions to facilitate comprehension.

Measurements reflect approximate dimensions of the front board.

We are happy to provide images of available items to support any programming or collection needs, from virtual instruction to personal record keeping. Requests for additional images are always welcome. If you’d like a closer look at something by video chat, just ask.
